A natural improviser whose voice spans delicate melodic lines to full powerhouse singing Emma’s free dynamic stage presence are developed through years of playing, performing and creation in collaboration with others. For Emma studying and learning about voice-breath-singing and sharing with others is a continuous journey.
Emma activates others to; voice, sing, connect to place and story/dynamic body sounding/ song through improvisation / story in singing / aware breathing /meditation / vocal exploration and play.
Working collaboratively in both music,theatre and contemporary dance projects - in both live and recorded spaces - Emma has been collaborating with others since her early 20’s. Starting off in London’s improv music scene & at Fine Art School - continuing the journey here in Naarm-Melbourne.
In 2005 Emma also started working community development arts and place making projects in local government, community health and independent arts sector.
Her tertiary study includes Masters in Community Cultural Development, Ad.Dip in Theatre Arts, Cert. 4 Community Services Child Protection.
She lives works and plays on the unseeded lands of the Kulin Nations of the Wurundjeri, Boonwurrung, DjaDja Wurrung Peoples and pays her respects to all First Nations Peoples past present and emerging.
Current music projects are Emma’s SOLO VOX PIANO WORKS, BATHHARA, Lavender vs Rose and member of ButohOut! 2023/22/21 singing in conjunction with dancer Yumi Umiumare.
Past shows are; Atonal Bitch, Hunters GateTorque Show / Intimacy, director Melinda Hetzel, Tony Yap Company and Snuff Puppets. Creator and producer of award winning cabaret performance art; The Dilapidated Diva and The Church of Burt.
Projects in hiatus are: Hunters Gate with musician Myfanwy Hunter & Atonal Bitch with bassist Kirri Buchler & drummer Sam Evans.
Prior collaborations with trumpeter Andy Diagram (UK), SHIMA project with concert harpist Natalia Mann percussionist Naomi Jean Sullivan.
